Guiding Ethics
Silver + Salmon is a silversmithing studio born from the desire for simplicity and sustainability. From finding a slower, simpler way of supporting myself to finding ways to work towards something greater than myself, these ethics drive all decisions behind my small business.
My goal is to offer a sustainable and enticing alternative to fast fashion jewellery using materials that already exist, giving them a new life.
Each piece that leaves my bench is made slowly from post consumer recycled sterling silver scrap sourced right here in North America. The choice to only source and use recycled sterling means that Silver + Salmon doesn’t contribute to harmful metal mining practices, which often include untraceable environmental and labour practices.
Working this way allows us to give a new life to sterling at the end of its consumer life cycle, keeping the circular economy going.
Similarly, by working with locally sourced up-cycled sea glass or repurposed/recycled stones we can steer clear of human rights violations from unethical mining practices when it comes to precious and semi precious stones.
The best part is that working in this way allows me that time to get out, step away from business mode and enjoy the beaches of Haida Gwaii with my dog George or peruse thrift stores for stones to recycle with my hunny.
Silver + Salmon donates 5% of all sales to Swiilawiid Sustainability Society, a non-profit organization on Haida Gwaii focused on sustainability in communities, lands, air and waters of Haida Gwaii.
Jewellery made slow, sustainably.

George
GENERAL GOOD BOY
George gets me out onto the stunning beaches of Haida Gwaii and helps me find cool bits to up-cycle. He is an excellent assistant who takes a close look at each piece to decide if we will bring it back to the shop. From emotional support bub to general adventure boy, he’s the for sure the best employee (paid in treats). -
Kyle Stonehouse
QUALITY CONTROL & IN HOUSE CRITIC
You can rest assured that when I’m done making each piece of jewelry I run it past Kyle who checks to see if he can rip it apart. He asks the important questions and councils me when I have those small business owner existential crises. What would a one woman business be without an in house critic?
